Events
at Fitler Square
On most days
Fitler Square is a quiet refuge from the noise and activity
of urban life. But several times each year the Square
is itself a hub of activity. Highlights include the
annual
Christmas
tree lighting ceremony, the Easter Egg Hunt, and the
Spring Fair. And recently, the Square has provided its
neighbors with a Farmer's Market that runs from mid-May
to early November.
The Spring
Fair includes a flea-market, as well as refreshments
and live music. Proceeds from the Spring Fair provide
revenue for the maintenance of the park and funds for
events such as the Christmas tree lighting , as well
as funds for additions and improvements to the park.
The annual
Christmas tree lighting is especially favoured by children
of all ages, and brings neighbors together for cider,
cookies and cakes, caroling, and a visit by a very busy
Saint Nick.
The annual
Easter Egg hunt helps the neighborhood greet the Spring
with expansive displays of the flowers of the season,
refreshments for all, and a tradition that children
18 months to 6 years of age can enjoy.
Beginning in
the Spring of 2003, Fitler Square has provided the location
for a Farmer's Market each Saturday morning. Sponsored
and organized by the Pennsylvania Food Trust, the Farmer's
Market brings meat
and produce from small area farms to the tables of local
residents.
